Weekly Workouts – 07.22-07.28

Alrighty.  This week of training was interesting, to say the least.  I am so ready to run in my own turf again.

Monday – Rest?

Tuesday – 3.8 mile run in the Bois du Boulogne with C.  We had, um, a difference of opinion about pace.  I wanted to go faster (which is odd…and rare) and he wanted to take it easy after our long run last weekend.  We went to the Musee d’Orsay later that day.

Wednesday – 1.5 mile warm-up, 7 x 400 repeats, 1.3 mile cool-down.  I felt really good about myself during this workout.  Speed workouts make me feel really powerful, especially when I was rocking my repeats at 1:36 pace.  The run home (cool-down) was rough, but I felt amazing a few hours afterwards.

Thursday – I woke up and my hamstrings were killing me.  I was really hoping I didn’t hurt myself during the 400 repeats.

Friday – Still sore, decided to rest (again).  We went to the Catacombs and had a ton of fun and then went to lunch at Helmut Newcake.

Saturday – With a high of 90 degrees, we decided to push our long run to the next day.

Sunday – Have I mentioned how much I miss the grid system?  I literally missed a turn by 25 degrees and we had no idea where we were.  Again, with a difference of opinion, we separated (side note: this is a terrible idea when you’re in a foreign country and you’re running for more than 40 minutes).  We did an out and back (where we split) and then I decided to do an additional loop to try to make up distance.  I took a left onto a road we’ve ran on numerous times before and about a quarter mile up, there were, um, two ladies of the night looking to get an early Sunday morning job.  They heard me coming (I was running on gravel) and they turned around.  I got a full frontal view of lady parts.  I had no idea what to do so I kept running.  Once C and I met up again after his run, we immediately hopped on Google to figure out what was going on.  Well, it turns out that the woods/trail/park we were running in is a popular prostitute spot in Paris.  We had NO idea.  That’s definitely something you wouldn’t see in the states.

During the long run, my knee felt tingey again.  I’m really looking forward to getting my new shoes when we get back to Iowa.  I don’t know how many more miles my legs can take with my current pair.

Anywho, here’s my hopeful schedule for this week:

We’re flying home tomorrow!  YES!  I rested today because I really am nervous about hurting myself with my current pair of shoes.  (If that happened, I would be devastated.)  Our first morning in the US, we are fully prepared to wake up at 4am (that’s what happens when you fly back from Europe), so we are looking forward to taking advantage of it and running in the week hours on Wednesday and Thursday.  THEN, we are moving into our new place on Thursday, which should be a load of fun (said no one ever).  Finally, my coaching class starts Friday evening, so hopefully I’ll stay awake for it (yikes!).

How did your training go last week?

When have you known that you needed a new pair of shoes?

Coffee & macarons

Wish me luck in that this next week is pain free!

    • I think I was so stunned that I almost kept staring (which is so wrong, btw) and then looked straight ahead and booked it around a corner. Definitely a cultural experience. Haha. Can’t wait to be home!

  1. Hahaha. I’m sorry I can’t help but laugh. I have no idea what I would have done if I came across that on a run! Better luck next run 😉 Maybe you can avoid another run in 😉 Save travels!!!

    • I know. It’s totally funny now, but when the husband and I met up again, I told him and he was surprised because he had seen the same thing. Looking forward to being state-side!

    • Haha, oh yes. We’ve seen a lot of weird stuff on our runs, but this took the cake. He was going to slow for me! Tell Ms. A that I’ll be at camp next week! 🙂

  2. I hope you have a really safe flight home — and that your luggage makes it with you 🙂 Wow! Your runs have got to be VERY interesting — just think about all the things you’ve seen on runs that you wouldn’t have seen otherwise! Oh…..and my training with Op has gone really well this week. Have a show in a little under two weeks…I’m psyched!

    • Yay! I hope your show goes great! I’m ready to see nothing but trail and the Iowa River when we get back home after this trip. Also, being on a grid system will make all the difference. 🙂

I will cry if our packs don’t make it home with us. SAS is great though – we’re flying through Copenhagen to Chicago.

      • YEAH!! SAS is awesome and your packs better make it!! I’ve never heard of anyone losing their stuff when they went through Copenhagen :-).

I hope we can meet up for coffee when you get back — I wanna hear all about your stay in Paris. Thanks for all the links on your blogs. The Catacombs look very….interesting 🙂

  3. Welcome home! 🙂 I think I need a new pair too. I usually can tell when I start getting blisters, and I have had a slight knee pain as well. Definitely would rather rest than injure yourself! Also, crazy about running into prostitutes! You will have the best stories to share about your time in Europe.
