From Wednesday, July 10th – Sunday, July 14th, we took a “vacation within a vacation” to Edinburgh, Scotland. C didn’t have any research to do there (he’s in French Reformation history), so we tried to spend as much time together as possible!
Thursday – Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, and Calton Hill
Friday – Day trip to North Berwick, Scotland (coastal town)
Saturday – Arthur’s Seat, St. Anthony’s Chapel
Places where we ate (and loved!):
- Birds and Bees (Stirling, Scotland) – C presented at a conference in Stirling on Wednesday morning, so we ate here Tuesday night. I was SHOCKED when I saw notations for vegetarian and gluten-free menu items! I had the peppercorn chicken and was quite pleased.
- Caley Sample Room (Edinburgh, Scotland) – They had an amazing selection of beer and wine. The waitstaff was extraordinarily helpful in choosing appropriate pairings for our meal. The food was really good too!
We were very sad to leave Scotland, but are very excited about phase 3 of our trip – Paris! We’ve been here two full days and have been taking a more relaxed/touristy approach rather than trying to get everything in like we did in Edinburgh.
Where is your dream vacation spot – domestic or abroad?
